I finally received my free Betty Crocker 2010 Calendar in the mail - yay! I want to try all 12 recipes. Some of them, like the January recipe, will be more of a vegan culinary challenge than others.

These were really easy to make, although the process is somewhat messy. My low opinion of vegan cheeses has not changed, so I did not enjoy my sausage balls as much as I might have. I do, however, have lots of ideas for modifications that will probably suit my taste a little better.

Homemade barbecue sauce on the side for dipping. I adapted the recipe from the Chinese-Style Barbecued Ribs recipe in Betty Crocker Best Recipes for Appetizers cookbook.

So we had our shrimp and andouille sausage with polenta. Yes, I know that there's not a huge difference between soft polenta and grits...but I like polenta a lot more.

The recipe for this is in the current issue of Everyday Food magazine. I doctored the recipe slightly and added some onions, celery and red bell pepper to make it a more complete meal. The polenta is just basic soft polenta made with cheddar cheese (also an Everyday Food recipe - this time from the cookbook).
